GREAT NECK

WELCOME TO GREAT NECK

Bask in sunsets on the north side

Great Neck is tucked away in Northern Virginia Beach and accessible through traditional road thoroughfares and deep water access, and watercraft. In this older part of town, there are plenty of tall, tree-lined streets and neighborhoods tucked away around cove-like inlets. The neighborhoods in this part of town are residential and have older contemporary homes.

Residents enjoy the deep water canal, boat slips, and docking access to their favorite restaurants. They can often see parts of their own neighborhoods when gathering the outdoor seating areas. Great Neck rests on a peninsula in the northern portion of Virginia Beach but is largely a residential section where locals love their proximity to the Atlantic, the Bay, and the Lynnhaven River.

WHAT TO LOVE

1. Near major highways yet far from the central tourist hubs

4. Navigating through the neighborhood on personal watercraft

LOCAL LIFESTYLE

Many homeowners in Great Neck love the ocean and using their own yachts to travel around their neighborhood, meet up with their friends, and spend time at nearby piers, marinas, and yacht clubs. While docking, residents frequently find time to shop or snag some cocktails at their favorite spots while watching the sunset light up the ocean and sky.

DINING, ENTERTAINMENT, AND SHOPPING

Great Neck has a few charming restaurants like Yiannis Wine & Food but is largely residential. Popular places in Great Neck include The Coastal Grill for seafood and American fare or Venuto for Italian meals. The Tin Cup Kitchen & Oyster Bar is slightly north of Great Neck but has delicious picks in a minimalist bar with few walls to let patrons have an uninterrupted view of the sea. Near The Tin Cup, The Porch on Long Creek also has traditional American seafood and puts new spins on it, as with the lump crab dip. It has an outdoor bar facing the properties on the Great Neck peninsula. Citrus on West Great Neck road has a sunny brunch diner with regional dishes.

THINGS TO DO

Great Neck has some spectacular views at the Broad Bay Country Club, where members enjoy well-maintained grounds. An alternative to Broad Bay is the Virginia Beach Tennis & Country Club, which has the most tennis courts in town. For those more into strolling or playing sports, Great Neck Park is a 70-acre park that has baseball fields for league play, sports courts, a gazebo, and picnic pavilions. Here, residents can visit The Great Neck Community Recreation Center to use the indoor pool, exercise in the large gymnasium, play a quick game on the racquetball court, try the traverse climbing wall, or play a match in the billiards room. Between the marinas, canal system, and local clubs, there's always something to do in Great Neck.
